Dr. MYRON J. (MICKEY) PORTER
Mickey is the Associational Missionary for the Golden Spike Baptist Association in Northern Utah with the Associational Strategy Team endorsed by the North American Mission Board (1999 till the present).
Mickey has served as the Baptist Student Union Director of Western Texas College, Snyder, Texas (1974-77), of the University of Alberta and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (1977-82), of the University of Calgary, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Mount Royal University and Foothills Hospital School of Nursing, Calgary, Alberta, Canada (1982-86), of the University of Corpus Christi and Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas (1986-89) and of Southwest Texas State Universty (now Texas State University), San Marcos, Texas (1989-99).
Mickey was born in Pampa, Texas on November 1, 1948. He accepted Jesus as his Savior during Vacation Bible School in July, 1956, was baptized a month later and became a member of Barrett Baptist Mission, a church plant of First Baptist Church, Pampa, Texas. Mickey answered God's Call to Ministry in 1958 while attending a Royal Ambassador's Camp at Panfork Baptist Assembly, Wellington, Texas. After graduation from Pampa High School (1967), he accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado where on June 26, 1967 he took his oath and began his service to his country with the U. S. Air Force. While on leave for Christmas in 1967 Mickey reaffirmed God's call on his life and returned to the Academy. Realizing that a Call to the Ministry and a career as an Air Force officer and pilot were incompatable, he resigned from the Academy and active duty, transfered to the Air Force Reserve and attended West Texas State University, at Canyon, Texas, where he received a BS in Physics in 1971. Completing his six year military commitment on June 25, 1973, Mickey received his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Air Force. He received a Master of Divinity in 1974 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and a Doctor of Ministry in 1981 from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California.
Mickey is married to Suzie and they have four daughters, 1 son-in-law and 2 grandchildren.
